Fence Repair in Minnesota and North Dakota

A fence almost always fails in one place first. A post leans after a freeze-thaw cycle, a gate drops out of square, a wind event takes out two sections. The rest of the fence is still fine.

Sonyx Fencing repairs fences for homes and businesses across Minnesota and North Dakota and nearby towns. We look at what failed and why, fix that, and leave the fence straight and square again.

Repair or Replace?

Most of the calls we get are repairs, not replacements. When the damage is limited to a few posts, a gate, or a run of panels, a repair costs a fraction of a new fence and keeps the rest of the line in place.

Replacement makes more sense when posts are failing along the whole fence, when the material has reached the end of its life, or when the repair would cost close to a new install.

We tell you which case you are in at the on-site visit, and when it is close we put both options in the quote so you can compare them.

What We Repair

Most of what we are called out for falls into two groups.

Leaning chain link fence post with sagging mesh

Chain Link Fence Repair

Bent top rails, stretched or torn mesh, leaning terminal posts, and gates that no longer latch. Chain link is the most common repair request in our area. See our chain link fence options.

White vinyl fence post and rail broken at ground level

Wood and Vinyl Fence Repair

Leaning or snapped posts, cracked and missing panels, sagging gates. We match the replacement material to the existing fence as closely as the style allows. See our wood and vinyl fence options.

Common Fence Repairs We Handle

  • Leaning or heaved posts — the most common failure here, usually a post that was set above the frost-movement zone.
  • Storm and wind damage — sections blown down or panels torn loose after a wind event.
  • Gates that drag, sag, or will not latch — a hinge, post, or squareness problem, not a gate problem.
  • Damaged panels and mesh — isolated sections replaced without touching the rest of the fence line.
  • Vehicle and equipment damage — a run taken out by a car, a mower, or a plow.

Why Fences Fail in Minnesota and North Dakota

Fences here rarely fail because of the panels. They fail because of what is holding them up.

We Fix the Cause

We fix what failed, not just what shows.

Built for Weather

Repairs built for wind, frost, and shifting ground.

Secure Again

Gates that latch and a fence line that closes again.

Built to Last

Replacement posts set the way a new fence is set.

Why Fence Posts Lean in the Red River Valley

A leaning fence is almost always a post problem, not a panel problem. Shallow-set posts in clay-heavy Red River Valley soil move with every freeze-thaw cycle, and once one post goes the panels pull the next one with it.

When we replace a post on a repair, it goes deep below the frost-movement zone, the same way we set posts on a new fence, so the repaired run does not go out again next spring. The lawn stays intact: no excavation, no concrete to clean up.

We repair fences across our ND and MN service area, including Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, Fargo, Thief River Falls, Crookston, and Bemidji.

Fence leaning, sagging, or missing a section?

Sonyx fence installation Method
1

Drive: Posts are driven deep
into the ground for stability

2

Donut: Ground-level support
ring that keeps the post tight

3

Pipe: Galvanized steel pipe
inside each post for strength

4

Rail-lock: Internal system that
locks panels together

How We Set Replacement Posts

We set replacement posts with the same driven-post system we use on new fences, instead of digging large holes. Each post is driven deep into the ground for stability, then set through a ground donut at the surface to keep everything tight and aligned.

Inside every vinyl post, we install a galvanized steel pipe. This gives the fence a strong internal structure and helps it stay straight over time.

Our system also uses a rail-lock design. A square locking piece inside the rails keeps the panels tight and secure, so they do not loosen or fall out.

We use thicker, stronger rails than standard systems. This provides better support and helps prevent sagging or warping.

With this method, there are no large holes, no piles of dirt, and no messy yard when the job is done. The result is a cleaner installation and a stronger fence that lasts longer.

Sonyx difference

Clean, Precision Work — No Trenches, No Mess

Our installation method is clean and controlled from the start. Instead of digging multiple holes and leaving piles of soil and concrete around the property, we drive posts one by one in a precise layout using professional equipment. This approach keeps the jobsite neat, organized, and easy to move around, with minimal disruption to your yard or landscape. Because we’re not excavating and pouring concrete at every post, there’s less mess, less cleanup, and a faster, more efficient install, while still delivering the stability and long-term performance your fence needs in real Minnesota and North Dakota conditions.

Sonyx was very easy to work with, fast with responses and attentive to our needs. They were quick to answer any questions that came up throughout the entire process. Pricing was up front, no hidden fees. Install was unimposing and the crew cleaned up their workspace when completed. Very happy with our grey vinyl and ornamental fence!

Matt and crew were here, as scheduled with all the fencing supplies. Repaired/replaced the south side run of my chain link fence. No more leaning and a lot more durable than the original fence. I will use them again for future fencing projects!

Fence Repair FAQs Minnesota and North Dakota

Residential and commercial vinyl fencing in Grand Forks ND
Do you repair fences you did not install?

Yes. We repair fences regardless of who built them. At the on-site visit we check what failed and whether the existing materials can be matched before quoting the work.

Chain link, wood, vinyl, and ornamental. Chain link is the most common repair request in our area, followed by wood and vinyl privacy fences.

Usually, yes. A leaning fence is almost always a post problem rather than a panel problem. We replace the failed posts and reset the affected sections, driving the new posts below the frost-movement zone so the line holds.

Repair makes sense when the damage is limited to a few posts, a gate, or a run of panels. Replacement makes sense when posts are failing along the whole fence, the material has reached the end of its life, or the repair would cost close to a new install. We tell you which case you are in at the on-site visit.

Yes. Wind events in the Red River Valley regularly take out sections and loosen panels. We replace what came down and check the posts either side of the damage, because the neighbouring posts are often compromised too.

Yes. A gate that drags is usually a hinge, post, or squareness problem rather than a gate problem. We reset or replace the gate post, square the frame, and adjust the hardware.

It depends on how many posts or panels are involved, the material, and access to the fence line. We provide a written quote after an on-site visit — we do not estimate over the phone.

We match the replacement material to the existing fence as closely as the style allows. Older or discontinued profiles and colors cannot always be matched exactly, and we tell you before the work starts if that is the case.

Post work depends on ground conditions, so winter availability varies. Contact us with what happened and we will tell you whether it can be done now or should be scheduled for spring.

Yes. We repair fencing for homes, businesses, and commercial properties throughout our North Dakota and Minnesota service area.
